Calories in prepared tomato sauce

This generic prepared tomato sauce provides 68 calories per 100 g. A 40 g amount has about 27 calories and 80 g has 54. A thin layer on bread is a different serving from enough sauce to cover a plate of pasta.

An example on pasta

Combining 150 g plain cooked pasta with 40 g sauce gives 190 g of food and about 264 calories: 237 from the pasta and 27 from the sauce. The example contains no added cheese. If your jar's label differs, use it for the sauce part of the calculation.

Tomato-sauce spiral pasta is a separate finished recipe that includes butter and tomato paste. Choosing its complete-dish entry means the sauce is already counted. Calculating ingredients individually and using a finished-recipe entry are two different approaches.

Is it carbohydrate, fat or protein?

It contains all three: 80 g supplies 5.53 g carbohydrate, 3.06 g fat and 0.96 g protein. Fat contributes energy alongside the tomato ingredients. When choosing a jar, check for oil, cheese, cream and sugar in the ingredient list instead of relying on the tomato picture on the front.

The reference is not a named brand and its complete recipe is unspecified. It cannot identify the oil type or establish whether sugar was added. The 102-calorie calculation for 150 g also refers to weighed sauce, not an assumed weight for a 150 ml container.
