Calories in beef stroganoff without noodles

The beef-and-sour-cream stroganoff reference supplies 150 kcal and 10.06 g protein per 100 g. A weighed 200 g amount provides 300 kcal. USDA’s 256 g cup measure provides 384 kcal; a serving bowl does not necessarily hold that weight.

The sauce counts too

The recipe model contains lean top-sirloin beef, sour cream, canned mushrooms, condensed cream-of-mushroom soup, onion, flour and oil. A 200 g serving is therefore not 200 g of meat: it contains 20.12 g protein and 18.66 g fat. Cream and flour are already part of the calculation.

Two hundred grams supplies 6.88 g saturated fat and 916 mg sodium. Changing the cream or condensed soup can change both texture and composition. A cream-free version, a yogurt substitution or a different meat cut needs its own recipe calculation.

The tomato-sauced roast-beef example is a separate dish without cream and provides about 219 kcal per 150 g, compared with 225 kcal for the same weight of stroganoff. Similar energy does not make the sauces, fat or sodium identical.

Are rice or noodles included?

The figures cover only the sauced beef dish. Adding 100 g buttered rice pilaf at 165 kcal to 150 g stroganoff at 225 kcal gives a total of 390 kcal. Recording all 250 g as stroganoff misrepresents the proportions of meat, sauce and side.

Choosing 100 g plain cooked egg noodles adds 138 kcal. With the same 150 g stroganoff, the total is about 363 kcal; any fat added to the noodles contributes separately.

Calculation basis

The source is USDA FNDDS 2021–2023, Beef stroganoff, 2706382, a defined recipe model rather than every restaurant’s formulation. Stroganoff with noodles and canned stroganoff soup are different entries. The 256 g cup is a source measure; a separate 192 g “quantity not specified” value has not been presented as a recommended portion.
