Danone mulberry-lemon sorbet: the weight of a tub

The examined Danone black-mulberry and lemon sorbet artwork declares 450 ml and a net weight of 276 g. The full tub provides 320 kcal and 69 g sugars. Entering 450 as grams would substantially overstate the amount of sorbet in the tub.

Sharing a tub

Divide the contents equally among four people and each portion weighs 69 g, with 80 kcal and 17.25 g sugars. Half a tub is 138 g and 160 kcal. Scoop sizes vary; a weighed 50 g serving contains 58 kcal and 12.5 g sugars regardless of the scoop used.

At an equal 50 g weight, Movenpick raspberry-strawberry sorbet provides about 60 kcal and 12.75 g sugars; the mulberry-lemon example provides 58 kcal and 12.5 g sugars. The two references are close. A larger scoop or a second helping can add more than the small difference between brands.

Fruit flavour, carbohydrate and sugar

The mixture combines black-mulberry sorbet, lemon sorbet, mulberry sauce and sauce containing lemon pieces. Sugar and glucose syrup appear in the ingredients. Fat and protein are declared as 0 g, while carbohydrate supplies most of the energy. A fat-free declaration does not make the dessert sugar-free.

The stated 25% mulberry purée belongs to the mulberry-sorbet component, which makes up 47% of the mixture. It is not a claim that one quarter of the entire tub is fresh mulberry. Lemon-juice concentrate and lemon pieces are also separate ingredients. Fresh-fruit fibre values cannot be assigned to the finished dessert.

Comparing sorbet with dairy ice cream

Milk is not listed as a main ingredient in the examined formulation, but the pack warns of possible traces of milk products, nuts, peanuts, soya, gluten and egg. The word “sorbet” is therefore insufficient to judge suitability for a milk allergy. For an energy comparison with dairy ice cream, use equal weighed amounts rather than equal scoops.

The label specifies storage at −18°C. Serve the amount wanted and return the rest to the freezer. Melting changes volume; it does not remove sugar from the dessert.

Label reference

Calculations use the manufacturer artwork dated 18 August 2020, published by Migros: 116 kcal and 25 g sugars per 100 g. Its separate 100 ml column is rounded independently and is not used for gram calculations. Fibre and unreported micronutrients remain unknown. A newer pack may have a different formulation.
