Calories in one drained can of Dardanel spicy tuna

The inspected Dardanel spicy-tuna pack declares 160 g net weight and 104 g drained weight per can. One drained can provides 201 kcal and 23.4 g protein. Logging 160 g as drained fish would overestimate the portion eaten.

Half a can, two cans or a weighed amount

Half the drained contents weighs 52 g and provides 100 kcal and 11.7 g protein. Two drained cans total 208 g, 401 kcal and 46.8 g protein. A weighed 80 g drained portion provides 154 kcal and 18 g protein; it is not automatically equivalent to another 80 g-net can.

The online panel for Dardanel sunflower-oil tuna does not explicitly identify a drained basis. The spicy can’s 104 g yield cannot be assigned to another variety’s net weight.

Salt and fat

The label declares 1.7 g salt per 100 g drained fish. A 104 g can therefore contains about 1.77 g salt, or 0.88 g in half a can. Olives, pickles and bottled dressings add their own salt to a salad. One drained can contains 11.23 g fat. The label declares 0 g sugars.

Which tuna species is used?

The inspected package identifies the fish as Katsuwonus pelamis, or skipjack. It is a spicy preparation with vegetable oil and chilli, so it should not be logged using a water-packed tuna panel or a different fish species.

Adding tuna to pasta or a sandwich

Drain and weigh the fish you use, then count bread, cooked pasta and added sauces separately. If the packing oil also goes into the dish, the drained-fish panel alone does not describe the whole recipe. Neither complete oil removal nor complete transfer to the meal is assumed.

A ready long-roll tuna sandwich weighs bread and filling together. Conflicting historical Mr. NO pack weights limit that entry to weighed amounts; the drained spicy-can panel cannot replace the complete sandwich’s figures.

Label basis

The manufacturer back label shown by Mopaş lists 193 kcal, 0.7 g carbohydrate, 22.5 g protein and 10.8 g fat per 100 g drained tuna. Declared salt 1.7 g converts to 680 mg sodium. Saturated-fat and omega-3 figures in the small print were not clear enough to certify. The reference is a 2×160 g-net/2×104 g-drained pack, not a guarantee that other sizes or newer formulas match.
