Dietitian's Tips for Consuming Hazelnut Paste

A weighed 15 g amount of hazelnut paste provides about 98 kcal, including 1.84 g protein and 9.48 g fat in this reference. A thin layer on bread and a heaped spoon can weigh quite differently, so spoon count alone is a poor guide.

Calories in a spoonful

If your spoonful weighs 5 g, it provides 33 kcal; at 10 g, it provides 65 kcal. Spreading 15 g equally over two slices adds about 49 kcal from paste to each slice, before counting the bread. Weighing a spoonful once helps you recognise that amount next time.

Does hazelnut paste mean unsweetened?

The name alone does not establish that. A paste listing only hazelnuts differs from a spread containing sugar, cocoa or other fats. Read the hazelnut percentage alongside the sugars line per 100 g. Total sugars are not supplied for this generic entry, so carbohydrate has not been presented as sugar.

For example, the 70% hazelnut Findux spread declares 7.36 g total sugars per 20 g serving. Fiskobirlik no-added-sugar spread instead has a sweetener and polyol declaration to consider. Hazelnut percentage alone does not reveal those differences.

Adding it to breakfast

Measure the paste before stirring it into yoghurt or oats; extra spoonfuls are easy to lose track of once mixed in. Hazelnut allergy still applies. Check the specific packet for any other allergens.
