Dietitian's Tips for Consuming Meat Iskender

An Iskender plate includes more than sliced doner meat. Bread, tomato sauce, butter, yoghurt and any rice or fries contribute to its energy. This page uses a named restaurant example: Yaka Et Lokantası's complete 715 g plate, with 1206 kcal, 51.4 g protein, 109 g carbohydrate and 63.9 g fat.

How many calories are in one serving?

The full reference plate provides 1206 kcal. Half, with every component divided equally, weighs 357.5 g and provides 603 kcal and 25.7 g protein. Eating half the meat while finishing all the bread and butter would give a different result.

The approximately 169 kcal per 100 g figure describes the combined dish in its original proportions. It is not the value for 100 g of the meat alone. A restaurant's “one portion” need not have the same weight or accompaniments as this example.

Leaving the rice or fries

Yaka lists beef doner, pide bread, yoghurt, rice, fries, tomato sauce, butter and vegetable garnishes. Leaving an accompaniment changes what you eat, but the separate ingredient weights are not published. An exact calorie deduction for the fries or butter would therefore be a guess. Check what comes on the plate when ordering.

The same restaurant’s beef döner wrap is another complete serving with flatbread and sauces. Rice served with çiftlik kebabı is counted separately. Match what each meal includes before comparing it with Iskender.

Salt and allergens

The complete plate is listed with 5.1 g salt. An evenly divided half contains 2.55 g. Bread and yoghurt supply gluten and milk; the restaurant also warns of possible egg, soy and sesame.

This is the restaurant's calculated recipe panel, not an average of all Iskender dishes. Calculations start with the declared 1206 kcal per 715 g plate. Unpublished component weights and micronutrients have not been estimated.
