The coating changes chocolate banana calories

100 g peeled banana, 20 g dark chocolate with 70–85% cocoa solids and 10 g smooth unsalted peanut butter weigh 130 g together. Calculating from the source ingredients gives approximately 268 kcal. Half of that same mixture, 65 g, provides 134 kcal. These explicit grams define an example, not every chocolate banana recipe or a standard banana size.

How much chocolate is actually eaten?

Weigh the banana without its skin. If some melted chocolate stays in the dipping bowl, it was not all consumed. The example assumes that all 20 g chocolate and 10 g peanut butter are eaten with the banana. Increasing chocolate from 20 g to 30 g while keeping the other ingredients unchanged brings the total to approximately 328 kcal.

Sandwiching banana slices with peanut butter and coating them in chocolate creates a different snack from plain fruit. The 130 g example contains 4.87 g protein, 5.28 g fibre and 18.08 g total sugars. Some sugars occur naturally in banana; “dark” or “unsalted” does not establish that a product is sugar-free.

Fresh banana, dried chips and other coatings

Freezing does not remove the energy supplied by chocolate or peanut butter. Dried banana chips, creamy fondue and milk-chocolate-coated products need separate calculations. The peanut-butter example is unsuitable for someone with a peanut allergy. A different spread requires its own label values and amount. For example, Gold no-added-sugar spread contains a milk ingredient and differs from the generic unsalted reference used here. No added sugar does not establish suitability for a milk allergy.
