Calories in the Italian-salad sandwich

Mr. NO's Italian Salata sandwich provides 253 kcal, 6.2 g protein and 27.1 g carbohydrate per 100 g. The two-piece 145 g pack contains 367 kcal and 8.99 g protein. Half the pack by weight, 72.5 g, contains 183 kcal.

What does the filling contain?

The manufacturer's artwork names salami, potato, pickle, green olive and basil. “Salad” does not mean a filling made only from raw vegetables; the salami makes it unsuitable to describe as a meat-free option. Bread and filling are weighed together.

Homemade Italian-style salad can have different proportions of mayonnaise, potato and salami. Applying the sandwich panel to the same weight of salad alone would incorrectly include bread in the salad calculation. A separate bowl of salad needs its own recipe basis.

The Classic Kashar variety has no salami in its declared ingredients, but does include tomato sauce, egg and mustard alongside the cheese. The filling name alone is not a complete allergen check.

Comparing sandwiches at equal weight

The 145 g Italian-salad sandwich supplies 8.99 g protein. The manufacturer's figures for an equal 145 g smoked-turkey sandwich give 15.37 g protein. Similar-sized packs can supply different amounts of protein, so compare the whole pack as well as the name of the filling.

What if the crust is left behind?

The panel describes the whole sandwich. Removing crust or selected ingredients does not guarantee that the remainder keeps the same composition per gram. Without separate values for the removed amount, a precise calorie deduction cannot be calculated.

The historical crust Italian-salad sandwich uses a separate 140 g reference. Increasing that old weight does not reproduce the current 145 g recipe.

Reference

Mr. NO's Italian Salata page lists 253 kcal, 27.1 g carbohydrate, 6.2 g protein and 13.3 g fat per 100 g. Its artwork states two pieces and 145 g total. The older secondary 140 g entry was not carried into the new package calculation. Sugars, salt, fiber, saturated fat and micronutrients remain unknown. The front-of-pack ingredient summary is not a complete allergen declaration.
