How many calories are in çiftlik köfte?

The MEB nutrition guide lists 303 kcal and 14.7 g protein for a 250 g serving of çiftlik köfte, or 121 kcal per 100 g. The figures describe the prepared meatball-and-vegetable dish, not 250 g of mince or plain meatballs.

A meatball dish with vegetables

Çiftlik köfte is served with vegetables. A separate Boğaziçi University recipe, for example, uses beef mince, potato, aubergine, peas, courgette and carrot, with bread, flour and egg among its other ingredients. Its ingredient list has not been treated as the exact recipe behind the MEB figures.

The fat content of the mince, any vegetable frying and the oil added to the pan affect a homemade version. At a restaurant, establish the weight of the complete serving with vegetables and sauce rather than relying only on the number of meatballs.

A separate recipe with stated ingredients and cooking stages is the beef meatball bake with potatoes and aubergines. Its values do not independently validate this Çiftlik köfte entry; keep the two dishes separate.

What does half a serving provide?

A 125 g amount of the reference dish provides 152 kcal and 7.35 g protein. Halving the nutrition assumes a similar distribution of meat, vegetables and sauce. Eating only the meatballs while leaving the potatoes is a different selection.

Rice and bread served on the side are additional foods. A missing carbohydrate value does not make a potato-containing dish carbohydrate-free. For carbohydrate counting, use the ingredient amounts in your own recipe or a complete nutrition panel from the provider.

Çiftlik kebabı made with beef cubes is a separate dish. The 250 g meatball portion here cannot be equated with a restaurant’s 360 g kebab serving merely because the names are similar.

What the figures represent

Table 6 on page 20 of the 1987 MEB guide is a historical institutional meal estimate, not a measurement of every modern restaurant portion. Carbohydrate, fibre and sodium were not provided and remain unknown. Vitamin A in IU was not entered as RAE. Boğaziçi’s ingredient list illustrates a separate preparation.
