What is included in ice-cream sundae-cone calories?

The generic USDA “ice cream sundae cone” reference gives 254 calories per 100 grams of the complete edible product, including its cone. This is not an empty-cone value. It is a historical generic example, not an exact label for every brand, flavour or ice-cream-shop serving.

Find the weight before calculating one cone

The source weight table does not assign a weight to one item. If the entire edible product weighs 85 grams, the calculation is 216 calories; 100 grams gives 254 calories. The 85-gram amount is a weighing example, not a standard cone size.

For a packaged product, use its net weight and nutrition label. For a shop-bought cone, you can calculate the empty cone, weighed ice cream and sauce separately. When using this complete-product reference, do not add the same cone's calories a second time. The ice-cream sandwich calculation likewise includes the biscuit; do not count an outer layer a second time.

Reading the sugars and fat amounts

Per 100 grams, carbohydrate is 28.89 grams, fat 14 grams, protein 3 grams and fibre 1 gram. Total sugars are 21.26 grams and saturated fat about 2.72 grams. The 85-gram example contains about 18.07 grams of sugars.

These are not exact label values for soft serve, a plain vanilla scoop, a chocolate-coated cone or another brand's product. Although calcium is 60 mg per 100 grams, the whole dessert is not nutritionally equivalent to plain milk or yogurt.

Which cone fits a weight-loss plan?

There is no healthiest-cone ranking that fits everyone. Actual portion size, toppings and the rest of the day's meals affect the choice. A smaller product or less sauce may reduce the amount eaten; having ice cream once does not by itself ruin an eating plan.

If counting carbohydrate, use total carbohydrate rather than the sugars line alone. A generic composition table cannot establish whether a product contains milk, egg, wheat, nuts or other allergens. Check the package or supplier's information; this page cannot give product-specific allergen assurance.
