Dietitian's Tips for Consuming Artichoke Soup

The thickening ingredients and oil matter as much as the artichoke in a soup calculation. This example uses yogurt, egg yolk and flour. A 250 g bowl provides about 87 calories; the source's 318 g serving provides about 111.

How much is in a bowl?

Bowls vary in size, and soup thickness varies between recipes. Weighed amounts are more useful: about 70 calories for 200 g or 87 for 250 g. The 250 g amount contains approximately 2.99 g protein, 4.92 g fat and 3.15 g fibre.

Do not calculate the bowl from the gram panel for plain boiled artichoke: the soup’s weight includes water, yogurt, flour and oil. The vegetable alone does not represent that mixture.

What is in this version?

The recipe lists artichoke, onion, garlic, olive oil, dill and water, with yogurt, egg yolk and flour for thickening. The cooked vegetables are blended, and the yogurt mixture is tempered with hot soup before being added. These figures do not describe a different cream-based or milk-only soup. This version contains milk and egg; check the flour ingredients as well.

Similar thickeners do not make soups nutritionally identical. In the yogurt-thickened beef-soup example, 250 g provides about 177 kcal and 13.67 g protein, compared with about 87 kcal and 2.99 g protein in this artichoke soup. The meat, vegetables and water proportions change the bowl’s contribution.

Butter added at the end

The method suggests finishing with dill cooked in butter, but the ingredient list gives no butter quantity. Its extra calorie contribution therefore cannot be established. Count any butter you add, and bread served alongside, separately. Two bowls of equal weight can still differ in energy when their oil or butter amounts differ.
