Calories in raw cherry tomatoes

Raw cherry tomatoes provide 22 kcal, 3.6 g carbohydrate and 1.3 g fibre per 100 g. A 150 g bowl of tomatoes gives approximately 33 kcal. The weight refers to the washed edible portion with stems removed; oil, cheese and dressing are additions.

How much do two or five cherry tomatoes weigh?

Variety and size make a single universal piece weight unreliable. Weigh the two or five tomatoes together and multiply the grams by 0.22 to estimate calories. Tomatoes weighing 80 g, for example, give about 18 kcal. The same count of larger fruit weighs more, so a “five tomatoes” comparison needs the weight alongside it.

What changes when oil and cheese are added?

The tomatoes' low energy does not remove the dressing from the calculation. Measure the oil and record the amounts of cheese and bread separately. For example, 100 g tomatoes with 30 g Muratbey Circassian cheese gives about 113 kcal and 6.8 g protein, before any oil or bread. A few pieces used as garnish also supply a different quantity of vegetables from a 150 g portion on the plate.

When serving tomatoes alongside falafel, record the patties separately. The home-prepared falafel reference supplies about 300 kcal per 90 g; adding plenty of tomatoes does not reduce the patties’ or dressing’s energy.

Potassium and vitamin C

A 100 g amount supplies 274 mg potassium and 15 mg vitamin C. At 150 g, potassium reaches 411 mg. If your eating plan includes an individual potassium restriction, adjust the portion accordingly; the small size of each tomato does not make the quantity unlimited. Dried tomatoes, tomato paste and cooked sauces with oil require figures for those preparations.

Source note: Values follow raw cherry tomato record 13-519 in the UK CoFID 2021 dataset, based on analysis of 21 samples. AOAC fibre is 1.3 g per 100 g. Vitamin A expressed as RE was not relabelled as RAE. Figures for larger generic tomatoes or dried products were not used to fill gaps.
