The values on this page describe Kenton chocolate sauce prepared with milk from the 128 g dry mix. The manufacturer lists 129 kcal and 18 g sugars per 100 g of prepared sauce. A 100 g amount of dry powder is not nutritionally interchangeable with 100 g poured over a dessert.

What does a serving of sauce add?

A 20 g amount of prepared sauce adds about 26 kcal, 4.4 g carbohydrate, 3.6 g sugars and 0.72 g protein. At 40 g, it adds 52 kcal, 8.8 g carbohydrate, 7.2 g sugars and 1.44 g protein. Milk is already included in this prepared-sauce reference; do not count that same milk twice. The cake, ice cream or profiteroles underneath are additional.

A prepared 20 g amount of Dr. Oetker gluten-free chocolate sauce provides about 29 kcal and 4 g sugars, versus 26 kcal and 3.6 g in this Kenton sauce. Gluten-free alone does not describe sugar content.

Cake cream prepared with milk and fat needs a different panel from pouring sauce. When using both filling and sauce, record each mixture with its own actual gram amount.

The generic ready-to-use chocolate sauce entry gives 56 kcal per 20 g, rather than the 26 kcal in this milk-prepared Kenton example. Match the preparation and label to the sauce actually used.

A prepared 20 g amount of Dr. Oetker dark sauce provides about 29 kcal and 3.8 g sugars, compared with 26 kcal and 3.6 g sugars for this Kenton reference. Both sides of the comparison use sauce prepared with milk.

Preparing the 128 g mix

The manufacturer's directions use the whole sachet with 500 ml milk. Stir continuously over medium heat, then lower the heat when it boils and continue stirring for 2–3 minutes. Stirring occasionally while it cools helps prevent a skin. The manufacturer's thicker-sauce option uses 1.5 glasses of milk and gives a different mixture; its nutrients per gram may differ. Preparation with water or another drink should not be assumed to retain the same panel.

Weigh the finished sauce when dividing it between desserts. Adding 128 g powder to a nominal 500 ml milk does not establish an exact cooked yield: water evaporates and some sauce stays in the pan. Using equal weighed amounts makes the sauce contribution easier to compare between desserts.

Simply melting couverture chocolate is different from making a milk-based sauce. Melting alone does not dilute its nutrients per gram; milk or cream you add is a separate ingredient.

Ingredients and allergens

The mix contains sugar, reduced-fat cocoa, corn starch, modified corn starch and 1.6% chocolate powder. The manufacturer gives trace warnings for gluten, milk products, almonds, pistachios, hazelnuts, walnuts, peanuts and sesame. The milk-prepared recipe contains milk regardless of the powder's trace warning.

Source note

The reference is the prepared-product table on Kenton's 128 g mix page. Its 0.27 g salt per 100 g sauce is equivalent to a calculated 108 mg sodium. Fiber and micronutrients are undeclared. Bottled ready-made sauce and dry powder need different calculations.
