Skinless drumstick calories start with edible meat weight

Raw skinless chicken drumstick meat provides 116 calories and 19.41 grams of protein per 100 grams. Bone, skin, breading and sauce are excluded. The weight printed on a bone-in pack is not the weight of meat you will eat. [1]

How many calories are in one, two or three drumsticks?

Count the meat, not just the pieces. If a drumstick yields 70 grams of raw skinless meat, it supplies 81 calories. Two yielding 140 grams supply 162 calories; three yielding 210 grams supply 244 calories and 40.76 grams of protein. The 70-gram yield is a weighed example, not a standard drumstick size.

Once the chicken is cooked, remove the bone and any skin you do not eat, then use an appropriate cooked-meat reference. Entering cooked grams into a raw-meat calculator mixes two different weight bases.

Raw, roasted and boiled drumsticks are different entries

USDA lists 116 calories per 100 grams for raw drumstick meat, 155 for roasted meat and 169 for stewed meat, all without skin or bone. Cooking changes water and fat content, so 100 grams cooked does not represent the same starting quantity as 100 grams raw. Separate database samples cannot establish an exact cooking yield for your chicken. Skin, breading and added oil need their own allowance. [1]

Can drumsticks fit a weight-loss or high-protein meal?

Yes. Serve the skinless meat with vegetables and an amount of potatoes, bread or grain that fits the meal. Include the cooking oil in your calculation. A plate with chicken and vegetables can contain quite different amounts of energy depending on its sauce and sides.

For a like-for-like comparison, raw skinless breast contains 22.5 grams of protein per 100 grams in the same source; raw drumstick contains 19.41 grams. Cooked breast and raw meat weights are not directly interchangeable. A daily protein target refers to protein grams, not the total weight of chicken on the plate.

High cholesterol does not make every drumstick automatically unsuitable. Skin, added fat, portion size and the overall eating pattern matter. The American Heart Association includes skinless poultry with visible fat removed among its choices; follow any individual plan given for your cholesterol. [2]

Check temperature rather than colour

Do not wash raw chicken: splashes can spread bacteria. Check that the thickest meat reaches at least 165°F (74°C), keeping the thermometer away from bone. A fixed oven time or the colour of the juices is not enough. Clean equipment that touched raw chicken before using it for ready-to-eat food. [3]
