How much prepared sauce are you using?

A 50 g amount of milk-prepared Dr. Oetker chocolate sauce has 71 calories and 9.5 g sugars. A weighed 20 g topping adds 28 calories, 4.4 g carbohydrate and 3.8 g sugars. The dessert underneath is not included in those amounts.

A 65 g whole-wheat crepe with 20 g prepared sauce provides about 135 kcal: 107.28 from the crepe and 28.2 from the sauce. The example uses a plain crepe; cheese or another filling would add its own contribution.

Adding 20 g of this sauce to 50 g prepared Dr. Oetker Sade cake gives about 211 kcal. For the Dr. Oetker profiterole kit, the standard sauce is already included in the prepared-dessert value; count sauce separately only when it is an extra topping.

An extra 20 g of this prepared sauce on 50 g of the filled éclair reference gives about 148 calories in total. The éclair’s original chocolate coating is already included in its panel; only the additional 20 g sauce is counted again.

Milk preparation and two different panels

The manufacturer mixes 123 g powder with 500 ml milk, brings it to the boil and cooks it over a low heat for 2–3 minutes while stirring. It is stirred occasionally as it cools. The 123 g packet weight describes dry mix, rather than the finished sauce.

Dry powder supplies 372 calories per 100 g; the prepared sauce supplies 141. Adding milk produces a larger amount of sauce. Do not apply the prepared panel to the powder pack’s weight. Likewise, do not count the milk twice when using the milk-prepared portion values.

The 50 g single-use ready chocolate sauce sachet is different: 20 g provides 56 calories and 12.66 g sugars. The milk-prepared sauce here provides 28.2 calories and 3.8 g sugars at the same weight; check the packet format.

Read the sugars as well as the flavour

The manufacturer lists sugar, cocoa, starch and 1.9% chocolate powder. A 50 g prepared portion contains 1.25 g saturated fat.

Replacing milk with water changes the panel. Plant drinks also differ in energy and protein. Calculate with the ingredients you actually use, and weigh the sauce added instead of assigning every spoonful the same weight.

The dark sauce provides about 72 kcal and 9.5 g sugars per 50 g prepared portion, compared with about 71 kcal and the same 9.5 g sugars here. Choosing the dark name alone does not reduce sugars.

Source note: the prepared-product column on the manufacturer’s Turkish chocolate-sauce page is used. The older 128 g pack was not mixed with the current 123 g version. Milk fat percentage, final yield, fibre and undeclared micronutrients were not assumed. Check the product’s milk and tree-nut trace warning and your own package.
